Most residential solar panel installations in Epping Forest District fall under Permitted Development rights, meaning no planning application is required. However, Waltham Abbey's rich heritage and proximity to Epping Forest create specific scenarios where you may need planning permission.

When You Don't Need Permission

Solar panels installed on the roof of a house are generally Permitted Development provided they don't protrude more than 200mm from the roof plane, don't extend above the highest point of the roof (excluding the chimney), and are not installed on a wall or roof that fronts a highway on a listed building. Most standard installations in EN9 qualify automatically.
